You never know
You never know....
So one day I turn on the television and spend 20 minutes looking for something nice to concentrate on in different channels. Searching to the point of lacking, I came across a documentary that feels worth sharing with someone.
So there are these two men who go climbing because its like a career to them and they have been doing this since they were 30, I cant really recall their names but if we were to give them names, lets say Brandon and Jessy. They planned and went climbing; I mean climbing the highest mountains and peaks that are covered with snow. I understand it is not called mountain climbing, rather it is mountaineering.
They carry with them all the gears a mountaineer needs to have in order to protect their body: Insulated mittens, liner gloves, neck gaiter, ski googles, belt, winter hat, socks, boots, water proof jacket and water proof pants, these are just some of the gears they should have.
So while they are in the process of climbing with their hooks and their boots had some spikes that ensured they were stable and couldn't slide off. It started snowing and the snow exceeded with too much wind and now it was not a snow anymore but a storm of snow. They are in the middle of nowhere and its storming snow. I thought the higher you go the cooler it becomes... theirs was the opposite.
Brandon then suggested to Jessy that they shouldn't continue until the storm subsides but then Jessy wanted to reach the top of the peak and so he urged him that they should continue despite the stormy snow and so they continued. While climbing with the hooks, Brandon's hook broke and he remained with one....what a pity with the windy storm. Jessy was far much ahead of him and he decided to shout telling him his hook was broken.
***I hope you are picturing in your mind how the scenario was, its like climbing a steep cliff and then you trip and suddenly your hook breaks***
So mountaineers always have a rope with them attatched to a belt tied on their waist, so Jessy throws the rope to Brandon to lift him to where he was. It was tricky though a better decision. As they try everything out darkness is fast approaching and don't forget it's still snowing with a harsh wind.
Aluta continua, eventually Jessy manages to pull Brandon and its a pass for them but before they know its already at night and the storm has refused to subside. They decide to take a break and continue the next day knowing the snow will eventually cool. So they eat and sleep in their small covered tent.
Dawn approaches and guess what its still snowing and now its a heavy one. They can't climb up or down because its too risky. Day two is worse than day one and so they spend the entire day in their covered tent. Told you before that if you are going climbing, you must have some things. They had a gas with them that they had used the previous day to warm food and warm themselves too. Its sad too that they had run out of water too and had to melt snow in order to get water but this did not last long since they ran out of gas.
***Now here comes survival for the fittest...
The third, fourth and fifth day, these people have taken nothing, no signal, no network and its still storming and windy that a helicopter can't get to where they are. On the sixth day they still manage to catch a breath but Brandon can't do it anymore because this depends on how strong you are. He lacked oxygen and his body was too pale compared to Jessy's... Brandon died.
These are the risks that come with mountain climbing and Jessy had to face it despite being tired and having given up. On the seventh day came rescue and the storms subsided, a bright ray of light bringing with it hope. Jessy was rescued and taken to the hospital even though his friend Brandon died. Despite all this Jessy was still not on the safe side because he had to go through a number of operations, there were blodclots on his feet and hands and they had to be amputated to avoid spread and he had to be bed ridden for six months.
Mountain climbing might be your thing but you never know.
