Kenyan Films

Image
Why are Kenyans not watching Kenyan films? Kenyan films continue to struggle with low local viewership due to several interconnected challenges the first one being perception of poor quality which makes Kenyans hesitant to watch local films due to weak scripts, poor sound quality and subpar cinematography. Additionally, awareness is low. Hollywood does massive marketing on different social media platforms and use a lot of resources while Kenyans are unaware of their local films. Limited access is another one. Mainstream cinemas and streaming platforms like Showmax or Netflix prioritize Hollywood films to Kenyan films, and give Kenyan films slots at inconvenient times. Moreover, there is competition from international films who have an established fanbase and high budget production making them appealing hence dominating the space. There is also a mismatch between content and audience preferences. Kenyan filmmakers often produce content tailored for international film festiva...

HOPE

Image
I have been thinking of how sometimes our lives are wired. You may want your life to move towards a certain direction but then things just don't add up. I thought it wise for you to help me reason out on hope, at least zoom and  later get it from your own perspective what hope is in the comment section. Recently we celebrated the heroes in our lives. What they have done in the past is exemplary that it can be remembered by all. I hope you had a hero. Being a hero means a lot. Heroic is the ability to conjure hope when there is none. Think about that for a second. To strike a match to light up a void and to show us a possibility for a better world; not a better world we want to exist but a better world we didn't know could exist. You will realise that hope goes hand in hand with faith. There is some great why to heroism that they bring to the table- some incredible belief that goes unshaken, no matter what. Hope is one great pillar that we all lean on in order to ach...

I board my usual matatu,  my prayer of finding it full is answered. My wish is to get a conductor who can start collecting money from the back and it happens because I am seated at the back and extremely exhausted.... if wishes were horses. By the way i need your views on this.. have you ever wished for a matatu conductor to start collecting  money from the back seats? Did the matatu conductors agree on something about collecting cash from the front seats first?  I enter into a world of imagination and My imagination quickly jumps to a conversation I had earlier with a friend.  The first six months have flown and again they were a like storm, too many. We have had to deal with the new government who make new rules and regulations that only pinch us and make our pockets run dry by taking the little cent we have. Do tell how you have coped for the past six months,... June has been swept away by our problem which makes me thinks days are quickly speeding but...
A common substance, produced in different forms that people use based on different assumptions. " A little wine for the stomach"  It can cure and harm at the same time.  A larger percentage of the youths have dived into drug abuse terming it as the 20th century style and I have always received alot of concerns when it comes to dealing in drugs. People question my honesty when i tell them I don't do drugs. 99% of the secular songs touch on drugs and drinks even in their videos and this gives their audience a different view on drugs.  Many youths have found themselves in such traps and do not really know how to jump out of that hole. Drug addiction is something people don't take serious even in discussions until it strikes a friend or a relative and they end up six feet below maybe because they suffered depression.  When the clock tick's 6pm and its on a friday, all roads lead to sherehe destinations where drinks are bought and people smoke weed in the name of shere...

It is in the nick of time that  I board this ummoinner bus. People don't like interacting in buses and matatus, it's human nature I think. Sometimes I thank God for the men and women of God who preach in our mathrees,we had one. They make you interact with the person you are seated next to which is pretty good because some of us,mmmmh, 'I mean you' since they woke up in the morning have not conversed with anyone but themselves complaining to themselves how life sucks.  Talking to yourself can be fun at times until you speak out loud.  After a long tiring day sometimes you would wish to find someone to speak to. Hours before I board this bus, my day had been quite busy, you know when you tell someone your day has been busy yet there is nothing to account for your busy scheduled day and even your to-do list is like what the hell. Nothing done here.  I almost fought these guys who ensure passengers board a matatu in town(I mean fight us...

2023

.................... 2023.........................  My mother tells me she gave birth to me at night 8pm. In luopean a child born at night is either called Atieno for a girl and  Otieno for a boy. But then I don't understand why she never gave me the name Atieno. Dad calls and realise that mum has just given birth to a bouncy babygirl and guess what dad says, Medalein Albright Auka will be her name and so they agree on the matter and name me after a politician and a diplomat from US, "Madeleine Albright" I always don't like when i have to explain to everyone how to spell and write my name. It always feels bad when someone spells your name incorrectly. Anyway, today is not about my name and not also about the day I was born. It's about me.  Let me share some of the things I have had to accept while blossoming. 1. I have learnt to accept that no matter how hard I'll eat my weight will still remain to be 48kgs. I have lost hope in stopping by another ...

So I get this one chance to explore a land of the unknown, you'll definitely get to know them. Everyone wishes the December holidays were always longer but come to think of it if they were longer how would it feel like.... Really boring, not to all though.             "I'll be heading out tomorrow at a friend's home, aaaaah and so I'm here to ask for your permission" My dad looked at me and honestly If I was an angel I ould tell what was running in his mind, so sad I'm not. I really struggled to say those words to him because he's such a strict Dad and if someone was to determine my blood pressure at the moment, goodness it was super high.  "Which friends? Who are they to you? At what time? Are you going to sleep? Or at what time will you be back?" I really don't like being questioned but I had to answer all these to my father. If someone would vision how events roll in a day i think I would be going to...
